Frozen love?

Posted by
CElliottUK (Reading, United Kingdom) on 3 December 2010 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

Another shot taken whilst walking the dog-but this time in a fairly creepy wood near my home. Poinsettias are the classic"Brighten up your home at Christmas" potted plant. They don't live wild in the UK. What was it doing frozen in a lake?

Canon EOS 7D 1/80 second F/2.8 ISO 400 110 mm

Well done. The color really brings great contrast to the frozen lake.

Hey - good question! Someone dumped them after getting dumped? Wild image for sure. hmm.... Now you got me all thinking about what happened - what's the story behind this - who, why - oh my.
My little brain is all a flutter now.

3 Dec 2010 6:34am

@Becky: I unfortunately now think that Catchlight got it right..."The slightly creepy wood" is a wood which is part of the Campus of the Unversity of Reading. Every so often the arts students do art "installations"...I think that is the only explanation...boring, but it got me thinking before the hard reality was made obvious....sigh

Does Betty wait patiently while you take photos on your walk? Maybe the rest of the plant is under the ice. The red is still vibrant, it couldn't have been there too long, don't you think?

3 Dec 2010 10:41am

@Julie Brown: I think the rest of the plant is under the ice, and I agree, it can't have been there very long. Betty knows that if I've got the black lumpy thing over my shoulder that there are going to be some interruptions to her walk, but then again, when she finds something disgusting to roll in-I have to wait for her! So it kinda works as a pernership!!

Monique from Koh Samui, Thailand

A very strange place to find a poinsettia and it still looks in great shape. Love the arrangement!

Europe now is in surprisingly cold season, isn't it! I jsut read the news about it! I love 'cold' but inconvenience often is the by-product of 'cold'! However, 'cold' has the great power to change nature, just like this photo presents!!!That's what I love! And I call it 'live fossile'!!

daniela scharnowski from Berlin, Germany

hehe, another thing we germans got from our friends from the island - poinsettias are all over here now for christmas - you can getv then in any supermarket (sprayed with glitter^^ if you like^^) I guess what you found are the residues of a private drama - girl meets boy thing. Girl told boy to be romantic and that means boy has to buy flowers. Boy buys flowers - but in a pot.
Boy meets girl at the lake, gives pot and hopes for a kiss - instead girl takes flower off plant and throwa it towards boy, crying he doesn´t love her and runs off.... boy throws the rest of the flowers in lake and goes home. End. ;D
