In every stream and pond...

Posted by
CElliottUK (Reading, United Kingdom) on 25 January 2011 in Animal & Insect and Portfolio.'ll find a Moorhen. Not rare, but with a charm of their own.
That's the end of a series that was shot in just 4 hours. A lovely time and a really refreshing change from the greyness over the last months

Sweet moment. Someone once referred to a moorhen the thinking man's coot - which did not seem to bother either of them or Joan Bakewell ! Strangely enough, I was photographing a coot and a moorhen fighting yesterday - moorhens are getting tougher !

Great little series - impressive to shoot it in just four hours! I love the angle you get on this shot. The Moorhen seems to be admiring the reflection of its beak in the water.

Didier from Tubize, Belgium

Amazing shot! I love pretty much the framing with bird posture in the diagonal. Well done, Chris. Have a nice afternoon.
PS: as we have the same camera, what tele are you using? It's impressive for lightness and detail quality.

25 Jan 2011 1:06pm

@Didier: The best camera out there(That will get all the Nikonittes flaming me - haha!) Its a Sigma 150-500mm f5.6-6.3, and is the best "Bang for Buck" lens in my bag.

Franz from Baden, Austria

handsome bird in this very attractive closeup, chris. i'm glad to see that some survived the shooting spree of some years ago (i'm referring to the "moorhuhn games" played on computers here - and everywhere else i guess - in which you had to kill as many moorhens as you could. i guess this was a silly tuesday comment now ...!).

25 Jan 2011 1:14pm

@Franz: I never played that game. Now, give me a Space Invaders game...and watch the score!
