Signs-I week on ...

Posted by
CElliottUK (Reading, United Kingdom) on 17 March 2011 in Plant & Nature.

The bushes that I mis-identified as Hawthorn,(Grouser thinks that they might be members of the Prunus family), are now really popping all over the place

Lovely Chris. Definitely Prunus. Go back in a few months and see what sort of fruit it has on it. I'm betting almond or possibly an early plum.:)

Curly from South Shields, United Kingdom

You certainly must be a few degrees warmer Chris, the crocus have only just emerged up here!!

17 Mar 2011 2:22pm

@Curly: According to Steven Fry on QI, Spring travels North at 2/3rds of a mile an hour. I reckon South Shields is 260 miles due north of Reading which makes 390 hours or 16 days. These shots were taken on Sunday, so I reckon you should be in the same position at the end of the month. Please let me know if the "Fry formula" works!!!

CATCHLIGHT from Reading, United Kingdom

Welcome Prunus, and a special hello to the TZ20

Beautiful and I think Grouser is right, it is one of the prunus. All going well there should be a good supply of fruit later in the season. They are very pretty- I like your description of them popping, it looks a bit like that.
