It seems that the rooster tail is lost. Maybe it's not new, those who wait. Funny picture. Says that over the Christmas period went all the possible and now it's back in front of everyday life.

@daniela scharnowski: Near to my house is "Dinton Pastures" It's a series of lakes that were created as as a result of gravel extraction used to build the Motorway near me(The M4). Each lake has a purpose-on one people can sail boats, but this is an area dedicated to wildlife. It's one of the places that I take Betty for a walk every day.
Minus the tail feathers. Must have been a close call:)

It is him who traditionally organizes, every on December 26th (“Boxing day”, bank holiday in the United Kingdom), a shooting party to pheasant with Sandringham, the residence of Windsor where the royal family passes the festivals of end of the year, located to approximately 80 km of the hospital. This shooting party was however to take place as envisaged.

What a lovely and colorful shot as he perches on the overturned pail. Seems like he's having a bit of balance trouble though, having lost his tail feathers. Wonderful and colorful shot, Chris!

He is gorgeous...Thank you for sharing this. Pheasants are rarely seen here in my part of the US anymore unless the game commission releases them into the wild for hunters. ( which when released the poor things don't know what to do and get run over by cars or caught by a hawk.) Sad for these once very abundant birds in our country.
30 Dec 2011 12:50pm
@Mary: The sad thing is that most pheasants over here are "Escapees" from commercial pheasant farms-not a dissimilar story
who would want to eat a guy as handsome as this anyway ?!? ;-))
(here, austrian airlines run a poster campaign around christmas with this slogan: "save a goose's life - fly away at christmas" ... goose being, of course, a favourite christmas fare for many people!)
30 Dec 2011 2:44pm
@franz: Haha-but don't you eat the goose when you get to your destination?!?!(Assuming that you arrive at country that eat's geese), otherwise it's the Turkey/Chicken/ whatever that get's eaten. Great idea for an advert, though!
How can anyone eat such a beautiful little critter?! Can't they see that little smile on it's beak and the light in it's eyes??! Beautiful shot and I'm glad he's still flying.
30 Dec 2011 10:39pm
Nice color and feather detail. I have never seen a bird like this.
