This Summer's weather has been great

Posted by

Put 2 Brits together, and the second conversation will be about the weather(Brits, c'mon, what's the first?!)
We like nothing better than a good grizzle about it being too hot, too cold, too dry, too wet. It's one of the few national sports where we are world beaters.
So, it may come as a bit of a surprise for me to say - what a great summer's weather I've had!!!-not too hot or cold, and just about enough rain to keep the garden from dieing off.
This was shot in one of my locals as I was having a beer with Mike, and was one of the few angry skies I've seen for many a fine month. Unretouched apart from a bit of straightening.

Great sky and light, It has been a great summer up here too, makes me more prepared for the winter. Of course for the farmers around us, it has never been right although they have got good dry hay in this year. The corn in the fields although ripe and full heads are very short, apparently to do with the lack of rain early on

Yes it's magnificent, the odd heavy downpour, although thankfully brief, has provided a few dramatic skies with great contrasty scenes.
I've caught one or two as well, it's my favourite type of light (in daylight hours), so no weather complaints from me!

Straightening? Had you had a few when you took this then???

27 Aug 2013 8:52am

@Sally: Photoshop is indeed a marvellous piece of software, but, as far as I know, doesn't have "Will reduce the effects of ten pints of lager", I need to check the manual out again

We've had some of those days, aside from oppressive heat and lack of rain we've had some beautiful days for most of the summer.

The sky is dramatic - and I like the spots of light on the buildings.

I love the foreground light against that dark sky, including a few raindrops on their way down! I caught a rainbow in a similar setting a few days ago.
Glad so many have had good summer weather. We here in Florida have also, though many states have had way too much rain. In the west they are so dry and have bad, bad fires burning. Weather is certainly a topic of conversation over hear as well, but I didn't read where any of your "Brits" came up with #1. ;D

27 Aug 2013 4:50pm

@Judy aka L@dybug: Put 2 Brits together and I guarantee , at risk of a 200 dollar bet, that they will, even if they are in a war zone, talk about the weather within 2 minutes. The prize is there to be claimed!!!!

The Mouse from Glasgow, United Kingdom

It's been a great summer, is this in the Allied?

27 Aug 2013 4:57pm

@The Mouse: Nope, the cheapest beer in town is the " back of beyond" and that's where we were

David from Avranches, France

Looks like a fine day. Just a passing monsoon.

If no one else is going to have a go I would say it must be about the ruddy government, whichever bunch of rabble are in.
Great shot Chris, far less damp than my interpretation today.

@Judy aka L@dybug: Come over here and listen! It's easy to work out!
